My Story

My name is Abigail and I am an award winning Pet Portrait and Wildlife Artist. I use coloured pencils to bring portraits of pets and birds to life in a realistic style with every pencil stroke. I create bespoke portraits with a personal touch for clients worldwide as well as original artworks and prints for your home.

I am a mum of one and create my artwork from my studio in York, UK accompanied by my studio assistant Chunky the cockapoo. During the lockdown, I started drawing as a way to relax. After posting a drawing of my dog Chunky on Facebook, friends and family asked me to draw their pets. Now I get to draw pets for clients all over the world. There is no better feeling seeing people’s reactions when they receive their portrait.

Since becoming a mum and experiencing loss in the family, I found a particular comfort in listening to the birds. I became fascinated with finding out more about different birds. A way of exploring this was to begin drawing them. With my scientific background in Chemistry, I have a thorough knowledge of colour theory. I use this knowledge to make my bird portraits as vibrant as I can, without the need for using solvents After completing a commission of British garden birds, I became hooked. I have since gone on to exhibit my bird drawings with the UK Colour Pencil Society and the Association of Animal Artists and have also won several awards. My work will be featured in Volume 10 of Colored Pencil Treasures- Colored Pencil Masterworks From Around The Globe. I was also selected as a finalist in the 2023 Sketch for Survival competition with my drawing of a Hyacinth Macaw. You can purchase originals and prints of my bird drawings.

Animal conservation is very important to me. I support Explorers Against Extinction, the Big Cat Sanctuary and various other animal charities through the Association of Animal Artists.
